EMBERS

Autumn/Winter 2021/2022

The concept of my collection developed from a series of aerial photographs by the photographer Tom Hegan. The images are of coal mines in Germany and the damage caused to the land as a result. Coal mining has swallowed nearly half a million acres of Germany’s land, including villages, forests and roads. The ideas of mining and burning coal lead to the development of technical samples, burning fabrics and exploring alternative fabrics, such as recycled coal bags. I designed my collection to show the process of coal burning and breaking down by focusing on heat damage and developing large panels on the body to create a slice affect. The collection is unisex with an oversized, relaxed tailored silhouette.
